What is refurbished telecommunications network equipment exactly?
Simply put, refurbished telecoms network equipment is previously owned equipment that has been inspected and restored to a sellable condition. It is also known as second user telecom equipment, green market telecoms, the secondary telecoms market or the used telecommunications market.
What does the refurbishment process involve?
Some companies may sell refurbished items with cosmetic defects and other issues, but TXO’s refurbished products go through a rigorous quality control program in our state of the art OEM-audited facility before being approved for re-sale.
Our refurbishment process confirms each and every product is in good working condition and free from blemishes and other cosmetic defects. Worn or broken components are replaced, consumables are replenished, cosmetic improvements are made and the reconditioned model is thoroughly checked before the item is returned to service. See our telecoms refurbishment procedure for more detail.
Can you refurbish any make of telecom network equipment for resale?
Almost certainly. TXO have a strong track record in the refurbished telecoms market, having operated in this industry since we were founded in 2005. Whether you need a single module, or a fully configured second-user system, we can help. Tell us about the equipment you’re interested in buying or selling, and we’ll get back to you within 1 business day.
Why should I buy refurbished telecoms network equipment instead of new?
When buying telecoms network equipment for your company it’s always a good idea to consider buying refurbished equipment. Here are seven reasons why you should.
- Save money and get great value
One of the most obvious reasons for purchasing refurbished telecoms network equipment is the low cost when compared to new. By buying refurbished telecoms network equipment, you can find yourself pocketing savings that average between 60–90% less than the OEM’s list price, depending on the series and manufacturer of the product, as well as the available supply. However, cost isn’t the only reason why you should consider purchasing refurbished products.
- OEM-grade quality
TXO only sells mobile and fixed line telecoms infrastructure of the highest possible quality. Every item is put through a full cosmetic cleaning and refurbishment process in our state-of-the-art facility before being approved for sale as an OEM-grade refurbished product. We are also fully ISO 9001 and ISO 14001:2015 certified, validating the quality of our processes and parts.
TXO’s warranty policy is also one of the main reasons why there’s no downside to purchasing a refurbished item. It means if something goes wrong with a refurbished product, TXO will offer a free replacement subject to terms and conditions.
- Repair avoidance
Typically, OEM repairs can take days, weeks or in some cases even months to complete, particularly for older, post-warranty units. TXO can help you calculate the overall cost of downtime caused by waiting for an OEM repair, and compare that cost to sourcing a refurbished spare. You may be pleasantly surprised that it is nearly always more cost effective to replace an asset, rather than repair it.
- Shorter lead time
One of the most common misconceptions about refurbished products is that the lead time will be longer than buying new product direct from the OEM. At TXO, we have access to parts when availability from OEMs is constrained. When and where possible, we will dispatch orders immediately on receipt of a purchase order.
- Extend the life of your existing telecoms network
When you’ve invested in a telecom network, you want it to last as long as possible. Buying extra parts and spare refurbished components maximises the life of your network, circumventing the repair process and keeping your business running like clockwork. It also means that your expensive investment won’t just be scrapped when newer versions render the older versions end-of-life (EOL).
The ability to replace a specific piece of kit with the same model means that calibration, management and installation can be a lot easier and stress free, than if you were to replace it with a different brand or model (which might not be compatible). If your business is considering how to reduce the amount of e-waste it generates, you should consider purchasing equipment that has already been used. Switching to pre-owned and refurbished telecoms hardware helps support the environment and means doing your part to help reduce the ever-increasing volumes of e-waste being generated every year. The manufacturing processes used in the production of new equipment impacts the environment, so it is better to reuse when possible. Every refurbished line card, router, switch or server you buy is one less piece of equipment going to waste, helping your business to support the circular economy, reduce its carbon footprint and be more sustainable.

Where does this hardware come from?
All our refurbished telecoms network equipment has known provenance. Our stock typically comes from a corporate environment as a result of our telecom network asset recovery operation (i.e. where customers have elected to monetise the products that they no longer need). Often this equipment is in fantastic condition and in some cases it is completely unused.
TXO has extensive customer and supplier relationships with end users (from a wide array of disciplines including telecommunications, data centres, oil & gas, government, educational institutions, healthcare organisations and utilities), network operators, and specialist brokers. Our clients include Tier 1 and 2 fixed and mobile operators, leading original equipment manufacturers, large enterprises and a broad range of other channel partners.
How much refurbished telecoms equipment do you have in stock?
The size and scale of our telecoms asset recovery operation means that TXO holds one of the world’s largest and most complete inventories of fixed-line and mobile telecoms infrastructure. We have over 800,000 new and used telecom parts in stock and access to a further 8 million through our partner network. Due to this, we are able to satisfy the majority of RFQs (requests for quotation) within 1 business day.
We can supply parts for all your telecoms network equipment. Our warehouse holds an extensive stock from all the leading manufacturers such as Alcatel-Lucent, Newbridge, Marconi, Nokia and Ciena through to niche manufacturers. This enables us to provide a single line card through to a complete system.
TXO keeps a large and varied stock of telecom equipment for sale. Search our product catalogue – if we don’t have the part you are looking for in our inventory, don’t worry! Because of our extensive customer and supplier relationships, we will be able to source the correct product for you at a competitive price and acceptable lead time, usually within a few days.
When should I not buy refurbished equipment?
There are some cases in which refurbished telecoms equipment may not suit your situation. For example, if you are looking to purchase equipment that’s only been available for 6 months or less, then it’s less likely that there is a refurbished version of the hardware available. That said, you might be surprised by how much ‘latest and greatest’ hardware there is on the warehouse shelves of trusted resellers like TXO. There is more available now than ever before, as the word keeps spreading about the value of buying from the green market.
